JANUARY 2024 GUEST SPEAKER: KARINA SZCZUREK
We started 2024 with a most excellent guest speaker, Karina Szczurek,
author of The Fifth Mrs Brink. She regaled us with tales of her early life
and how she became a writer. The members loved hearing her speak,
and have asked when she will be back. The good news is... later this year!
Here we see Karina with Stefan Schutte, WCWC member and author of
The Last Jukebox Heroes.

An Actor For a Day
Saturday, 26 October 2019
Celia and Coleen came to share their program ‘Be An Actor for a Day’ with 16 members of the WCWC. Celia and Coleen are both involved in theatre so the energy in the room was high right from the start. We all gained as much from listening critically as from our own performance.

West Coast Writers Circle Workshop
March 2010
The workshop was held at the Centre for the Book in Cape Town.
An open workshop that was put together and held by our writers circle. We were inundated and sadly had to turn people away who had not booked a seat.

!Khwattu Writing Day
February 2010
The Writers Circle went out to the West Coast San Centre and spent a day high up on the kopjie, with picnics supplied by the restaurant at !Khwattu. After driving out there, and having breakfast or coffee, a tractor and roofed trailer drove us along a mini game drive with various animals, like zebra and different buck etc, right up to the top and left us there for the day. There was even a long drop loo even higher up with a view to die for! It really was the most peaceful spot to sit and enjoy writing, with just the sound of the wind and the birds, nothing to distract you only to inspire you.

Our history
In October 2007, after a year of dormancy, Alison Smith revived the old Melkbos Writers Circle, renamed it, and held monthly meetings in her home. The Circle grew, and in March 2008 we moved to a larger, more central venue at the Milnerton Library. Our thanks to the Library for providing the venue.
The original West Coast Members 2007, who met at Alison Smith's home:
L - R: Alison Smith, Monica Boshoff, Aubrey Celliers, Susan Ziehl, Stuart Sinclair.
Front on floor: Fiona Nash (holding Chocolat) and Fanus Bothma.
